Deep Sea Fishing On the Mississippi Gulf Coast

If you are interested in a fun waterbourne adventure, you should consider a deep sea fishing trip on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. From bluewater trips in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico to light tackle excursions along the coastline in the Mississippi Sound, deep sea fishing charters provide bottom fishing trips and trolling excursions throughout the year, routinely returning to port with a variety of fish, including sharks, grouper, jack, snapper, lemon-fish and King and the smaller Spanish mackerel. Additionally, many other types of game fish are regularly caught. As a courtesy, your catch can be cleaned and dressed upon request for a standard charge, however you may opt to complete this task yourself .

Charter boats are located in several harbors along the coast. Pass Christian, Gulfport, Biloxi, Long Beach , and Ocean Springs each house several charter boats, as well as offering fresh caught gulf shrimp, oysters, fish, and other seafood for sale fresh out of the water.

A full day fishing charter customarily runs for up to eight hours with varying departure times. Most charters depart early, at 6:00- 7:00a.m. Those wishing for longer or shorter adventures might consider the overnight and 1/2 day trips. The trips are usually comprised of four to six people with standard pricing for a full day beginning at around $400.00; 1/2 day trips are priced starting at $285.00 and allow for up to six passengers although prices may vary depending on the season. Ice, bait and tackle will be provided for your convenience.

All of the fish you will be catching will definitely make for hungry fishermen. The party chartering the boat usually is required to provide food and beverages for itself as well as the captain and the crew, but special arrangements are available in advance with most captains, for an additional fee, to supply the food and refreshments if requested.

Generally, the charter boat captains have no restrictive guidelines for the consumption of alcohol on their vessels as long as local laws are followed, yet for the safety of you and others in your party, excessive consumption and alcohol abuse is not tolerated.

Make sure proper dress is worn for your deep sea fishing trip. It is recommended that soft deck shoes be worn. Head coverings, such as caps and hats, proper protective sunglasses and adequate sunscreen are essential. During the spring, fall and winter, make a point to wear warm enough clothing to provide protection from cool winds that may blow in off of the open waters. During the summer months, clothing that provides protection from the sun is needed and a liberal amount of sunscreen should be applied to anyone that will be exposed to the sun for extended periods of time while trying to hook the big one.

To avoid a scheduling disappointment, especially for seasonal holiday or weekend trips, charters should be reserved well in advance, although reservations that are made an evening before may be a sufficient amount of time for booking weekday trips.

A Mississippi saltwater fishing license is required to fish in the state waters. One must be obtained prior to the trip, unless notification has been made beforehand that the license is covered by the charter boat. Make sure to confirm when booking your charter.

Whatever type or length of trip, experiencing the wonders and creatures of the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf of Mexico will provide lasting memories and fishing stories.
